About

Hi, My name is Mick. After a fairly busy working life I wanted to fulfil an ambition and learn about music and possibly learn to play an instrument.

This website is a result of the journey I have been on for the last couple of years and if I can encourage someone, whatever their age , to start the same journey I will be well pleased.

You will see this site is pretty much dedicated to playing an instrument called properly an Appalachian Dulcimer which indicates it’s cultural origin in the central and southern parts of the Mountains of Appalachia in the USA. It has a variety of other names dependent on particular variants, but I use Mountain Dulcimer which is a pretty generic term or just simply dulcimer. Unfortunately there is another instrument called the Hammered Dulcimer ,which is a different beast altogether, but which is also referred to as dulcimer.

Of course I didn’t start playing a Mountain Dulcimer, which is an uncommon instrument in the UK. I started wanting to learn guitar, having lugged one about for fifty years, whilst never, ever learning anything about it. I can now strum a few easy chords, but my hands and brain cannot cope with much more.
